Katie and I looked at each other, using our facial expressions and eye gestures to communicate, nonverbally, excuses why we couldn't watch his magic trick. Roger didn't wait for our affirmation. He took a small, yellow scarf from his pocket and told us he was going to make it disappear. I had gone to magic camp when I was a kid and this was one of the first tricks I learned. I knew what to look for as he was pushing the scarf into his fist. I watched intently for 'the trick,' but made an effort to seem amazed. This was a little easier for Katie since she didn't know how the trick was done, but even so she didn't find it amazing because she knows there is no magic; only tricks.
We lightly applauded when he made the scarf reappear. Pride brightened his face, though it was obvious he's a naturally happy-go-lucky guy. He told my sister and I to take care and sent us on our way. "Enjoy the rest of your day at Six Flags."
